So a lovely nonny asked for protective!Connor and my mind went to all sorts of AUs before scaling it back and going a little smaller…

When they walk down the street, Connor ensures that he walks on the outside and Oliver’s on the inside; putting himself between Oliver and the other traffic – bikes, cars, fellow pedestrians. Oliver points it out one day and Connor simply shrugs. “Can’t be too careful.”

Connor holds doors open wide for Oliver to walk in first. He places a hand on Oliver’s shoulder or the small of Oliver’s back, subtle as he ushers Oliver safety inside. Once they’re both in, Connor’s hand trails down Oliver’s side to link their fingers together. Oliver never points this out; he just squeezes Connor’s hand once in his and smiles, soft and shy and touched.

They get in the car and Oliver’s distracted as he messes with his phone. They’re meeting some friends for dinner and there’s an eleventh hour debate over the restaurant choice. “Finally,” Oliver says, never looking up from the screen. “They decided on Parc. I’ll pull up directions.” He glances over to see that Connor hasn’t even started the car. “What’s up?” “Seatbelt,” is all Connor says. “What?” “You didn’t put on your seatbelt.” “For the love of-” Oliver mutters as he reaches over to grab the belt. He clicks it into place and Connor turns the ignition.

Oliver’s away at a conference and calls Connor a little bit drunk late at night.
