It was mentioned that before Alma and Kanda others woke up too, that were eventually frozen, but what if those were Alma and Kanda? Sine their bodies were conserved theoretically they could create mutlitple new ones, if they got euthanised they’d create another one and do it over again. Alma and Kanda might have been stuck in a loop of yearning to see each other but as soon as their memories surfaced they were disposed of.
nice theory (or not!) but i think it’s a waste of resource since no one in the right mind would do the same thing over and over when the evidence shows that it’s not effective on those particular subjects.
I think there are so many variables at work here, and they were so desperate to cling to any possibility of success, that the fact that Alma and Kanda woke up at all would encourage them to keep using those two. (The fact that they kept failing to synchronize and died repeatedly didn’t deter the organization either.) I don’t remember what words were used by the scientists, but I was under the impression they had done something new, since previous awakenings, that would hinder the recovery of the exorcist’s memories. So if they believed they were able to cut out the variable that made the exorcists unstable, they would have every reason in the world to continue using Alma and Kanda, until they were deemed ‘successful’.
Actually, I just realized they tried to euthanize Kanda, and it didn’t work. So maybe the other times the experiment failed, they were people other than Kanda.
honestly i don’t really have a good argument to add here, i just think that despite everything, the scientist who worked with them are not that cruel to make them suffer like that again and again, they do love kanda & alma to some certain point as hoshino repeatedly show us. even if they do use the brains/souls multiple times it could be due to the fact that they don’t know these two are lovers.
p/s: you know, i just realize OP were just trying to suggest that kanda & alma has terrible, terrible luck, it’s not about the scientist being horrible so nevermind, i just get a little bit defensive that’s all.
