akria23:

Rebecca did not redeem herself in the finale, she was always that person ya’ll just opened ya’ll eyes for the first fucking time. I think it’s funny that her character represents the prejudged ones, the ones who people look at and see criminal, see waste, see nothing….and thats exactly how many fans of the show saw her. Thats why I don’t find her death funny. There are people she represented dying in society right now. The people who are prejudged and killed because of it and then are demonized in the process and the aftermath.

I don’t even know why fans fed into her being a suspect anyway from the moment she picked up the phone and called the police to turn herself in for a crime she didn’t commit. She never betrayed the group (even though they were willing to sell her ass up the river with Wes) even when she thought Wes brought her to the house of the killer, she didn’t go to the police, she ran.

I wish we would have more of her backstory because she’s much like Annalise, they’re both street smart, intimidating/blunt/take-no-prisoners type, they both have the ability to read/maneuver people, they understand the harsh reality, and they take on a ‘roll with the punches method of strategy (when bad shit happens they maneuver and try to end up two steps ahead), emotionally unstable and trust issues out the wazoo. The only real difference between these women (because the obvious ethnicity and age) is money and title (and the fact that annalise has a team – less tangled webs than a one man show- but more people to fuck). Annalise’s money and title makes people who would look down upon her have to listen, hell makes some of them want to listen. But if Annalise was still Ana-mae that girl from the poor gutter she just be another mouth piece. It doesn’t matter that they’re smart, or have talents…it only matters what you’ve achieved and what you present to the world and how they view your ass. Rebecca knew that, Annalise knew that (which is why she reinvented herself) and that’s why Michaela is working so hard to not continue being a Rebecca and instead become a Annalise.

That’s why I’m so disappointed in Michaela, as someone struggling to come from that background how is it you didn’t try at all to understand this woman. Instead she was the one to always quickly jumped to judge her. I never understand how an oppressed people can turn around and oppress. (ex. black people who look at blacks as criminals – or poor people who look at other poor people as ghetto trash or trailer park trash) Maybe it’s like Annalise said – you only care when you’re a part of the issue. Or maybe Michaela is in that state where she thinks to get where she wants to be she has to separate herself from that past and those who are apart of it she thinks to be the best she has to act like shes apart of the best that means disregarding those in similar boats as hers.  But thats the reality of how people are even in real life.

In truth more than lila and sam’s death Rebecca’s situation shined a light on how we are as a people right now. I think the real issue here though is that you most likely judge people just like you prejudged Rebecca…and that’s a scary reality in today’s society.

The storyline is actually genius when you take the dynamics of this story. I mean you have the rich/poor dynamic (it’s about more than that because they’re really struggling to be heard – for nobility but lets simplify it) Annalise – Michaela – Rebecca. Rebecca actually plays the minority in this field with Laurel coming in as a secret topper, already born and breed in a rich family. Then you have the flip side centering the boys Asher – Connor – Wes. Wes a black man is the minority…but Asher understands that he’s the so called american dream (rich white straight male) and that he’s comes from privilege. The one that truly privileged in the women side (Laurel) doesn’t acknowledge that factor though. All the 6 in the triangle can be compared (laurel will always play a contrast though). You have the woman verses man dynamic. Of course morale and values come into play. They don’t deal in the stereotype either, Asher wasn’t the asshole white boy you expected him to be, connor wasn’t the victimized homo, Rebecca wasn’t white trash, laurel aint the innocent free thinker ya’ll thought she was, Wes wasn’t the hero.

They’ve done an amazing job keeping their ducks in a row so far. I have some thoughts about whats gonna happen next season, but ,mostly I just hope they keep shining lights on the shit people seem to either have forgotten or don’t understand. Rebecca’s death was very thought provoking and it makes me look at all the characters differently. (I’m still waiting for those who were throwing Rebecca under the bus the whole season to apologize….or at least admit they were wrong…instead of claiming she fucking redeemed herself >.>)

Rebecca was far from innocent. No, she didn’t strangle Lila, … But did you miss what she did to Rudy? That was unspeakably cruel! And how she set up Lila to find her with Griffin … Or how she lied about Nate’s threats, … Or how she turned/blackmailed Wes & the rest of the people helping her the night she broke into Sam’s house, … Or how she continued to try to turn everybody against the only person who could even stand her? Hell, I hope it WAS Wes who killed that good-for-nothing bitch!

Wow i don’t even know why you send this to me, i’m not even the OP of that post? But okay, i wil try to do this:

Rebecca was far from innocent

By “innocent”, OP means she didn’t murder anyone, & she didn’t, so she is innocent

And how she set up Lila to find her with Griffin …

Wow, do you even watch the show? Do you even understand what she was trying to do? She tried to show Lila that Griffin is a bad guy & Lile shouldn’t get back together with him. She tried to help Lila, even though Lila called her a “trashed-out druggie whore”, because she cared about Lila, & i’m failed to see why you thought what she did is a bad thing? Like Griffin REALLY is not a good guy!

Or how she lied about Nate’s threats

And she is the only one to lie in this freaking show???? I will quote Connor’s words from episode 13 “Well, at least a Rebecca lie finally helps us.”. Once again, she was trying to help them by making Nate looks more guilty. And she is not the one who throw Nate in jail, Annalise did, she just went along with that plan

Or how she turned/blackmailed Wes & the rest of the people helping her the night she broke into Sam’s house

First, no one asked them to come & help. They were there because of Wes, & Wes is the one who drag the others into this, not Rebecca. And do I need to remind you how many time in that night Connor & Michaela talked about pin the murder to her? Even though she wasn’t even the murderer. And second, there are tons of backstabbing & betrayal in this show, stop acting like she is the only one who did it.

Or how she continued to try to turn everybody against the only person who could even stand her?

Did you forget that “only person” also turn his back on her and let the others treated her like criminal for a crime she didn’t commit?

But did you miss what she did to Rudy?

What she did to Rudy was wrong, yes, and no one said Rebecca had never done anything wrong. But Rebecca was scared, she just saw her only friend dead in a water tank. Rudy not only saw her wet, he also heard she fighted with Lila ealier that day. If Rudy tells those to the police then they would definitely think she is the murderer, so she just wanted to protect herself. Not to mention she was high, she wasn’t thinking straight. And as Wes said: “She’s messed up! That’s what happens when you grow up like she did.” Of course it doesn’t justify her actions, but she DID deserve sympathy, which not many people give her.

The thing is, anon, if you even care about Rebecca at all, you will find tons of posts in the Rebecca Sutter tag that explain why Rebecca doesn’t deserve the hate people give her. And this is a brilliant post about how people treat Annalise, Michaela & Rebecca diffirently, even though their stories are quite similar in some aspect, and how Rebecca is the victim of prejudged.

I do hope that you’re not that kind of person who just hate on a character without even trying to understand them & will read what i recommend, but honestly i wouldn’t bet on it
