One thing that I can say HTGAWM has sort of disappointed me on is the fact that in the beginning Connor and Michaela were sold as academic rivals, both coming from the top of their classes. Michaela has consistently proven that she has a deep knowledge base and often provides great insight, which is definitely one of my favorite things about her character.

But Connor doesn’t seem to have an analytical bone in his body sometimes – like in this latest episode where he had no idea how the PD running two DNA tests and deleting the first could possibly be significant. The only purpose he seems to serve anymore is that he ties Oliver to the firm. All of the other characters, even Asher, seem to have proven to be better at analysis and/or thinking on their feet than Connor.

I do love his character and all but I hope that the overwhelming reception that his relationship with Oliver has received hasn’t made the writers forget that he is supposed to be an intellectual rival for Michaela (unless he also screwed his way to the top of his class >_>;;). As much as I love seeing loving, mostly healthy gay relationships on TV, I would also love to see gay men being portrayed as being able to balance being in a committed relationship with being competent at their jobs (and yeah Oliver is definitely competent, but we never really get to see him in action, we usually just see him magically pull up the relevant information on his computer).
