Yeah, I’m sure they do, all the time. Must be exhausting for them.

matsuokaas asked: Mako or Haru?
makoharu co-dependency issue rant.
Okay.
THIS.
Seriously this this this this is basically the rant I’d been wanting to write for a long time and you’ve addressed pretty much every point.
Especially
I honestly am a little tired of hearing people shout out diagnoses for pairings to try and discredit them, rinharu the abusive and makoharu the co-dendent. heck even reigisa has been labeled as unhealthy.
It makes me wonder, if people who are quick to label these pairings as such really understand the seriousness of destructive relationships. It’s not something you can throw lightly when you don’t like the dynamics of a pairing. A relationship has to meet certain points to really be filed as abusive and co-dependent.
Hurting each other =/= abusive, and depending on each other =/= co-dependency.
Bless. I’ve been in some ship wars before but this is definitely something I hadn’t seen before Tumblr. You can feel the Tumblr influence there… “I want to hate on this ship but Tumblr has taught me that it makes me a bad person so I’m just going to twist this so they’re the bad person for shipping this! Not me for hating on it! Genius!”
There are so many bad ship metas out there that spread reasons to hate on the guise of being objective, they’re not. Some I’ve read were good-intentioned, I’ve seen people actually try to understand the rival ship but failing to separate from their ship bias entirely and ending up writing something to the effect of “right, I’m not hating, I’m just saying there are problems here that I’m blowing out of proportion because I just can’t like this thing and it gets in the way of my other thing”. It’s unfortunate because the more rabid shippers take these things as gospel and a validation for their hate and oh, here we are.
This baffles me especially when it comes to MakoHaru?? I mean yeah RinHaru is (was?) my ship and if you’re calling them abusive and toxic I will call you out on your bullshit, but I kind of understand how people can wildly extrapolate “unhealthy” from “kids hurting each other out of misunderstanding despite the fact it’s the last thing they want”. But MakoHaru is codependent…? How do you take the most supportive relationship in canon and turn it into this? How do you take the most selfless character in canon and turn him in to this…?
I mean the twists in canon you have to make… I’ve seen people base their bs on nothing more than “Haru sometimes wants Makoto to leave him alone in High Speed” (spoiler that’s his attitude with everyfuckingone including Nagisa and of course Rin it’s a Haru trait not a MakoHaru trait) and “oh remember that time in ep 10 when Makoto misunderstood Haru? CODEPENDENT”. You have to basically ignore the fact that Makoto never wanted to quit swimming, yet he let Haru quit, and never said anything about it, then he let Haru go back to swimming when he wanted to, and supported him all the way while barely intervening (hell he felt bad about how much he supposedly pushed Haru but all he did was accept the captaincy). You have to ignore the fact that he lets Haru rely on him as a social shield, yet never dismisses Haru’s attempt at communication or choosing what he wants. When Makoto speaks for Haru he does because he’s the one who understands him the most (doesn’t mean this understanding is infallible ofc that’s their relationship arc, finding out that they have to actually say things to each other), when Haru decides to speak for himself, even if it contradicts him, he always goes with that. You have to ignore the fact that he does his best to repair Rin’s relationship with everyone, including Haru, including himself, don’t dismiss this as an “exception” this is fucking essential. Makoto’s life doesn’t revolve around Haru and his actions are not a ply to put Haru in the same situation.
You have to ignore Makoto’s entire character arc, all of the revelations that are made about how Makoto hid himself from everyone including his best friend just so that they could do what they wanted. Makoto is the opposite of what you’re claiming him to be.
I don’t understand why people are so adamant on trying to judge MakoHaru when they clearly can’t understand Makoto or separate him from MakoHaru… The ship starts with the characters yall.
Anyway I’m ranting and repeating everything you said but basically, thanks for writing this.

Makoharu + lego
Hi fandom! I thought it’d be fun to try and gather up as many interviews or radio talks or commentary (all official of course) or anything that showed MakoHaru love so below is (hopefully) at least most of what’s been said about our two boys. If I missed something feel free to let me know!
NOW ONWARDS. THIS IS LIKE 20 PAGES LONG. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
TISSUES ARE RECOMMENDED.
Interviewer: “So, Makoto, do you love Haruka?”
happiness-hit-hard replied to your post: Hello, apparently from the skits at the Free! event…
I’ve seen some Twitter stuff on that one I can translate if need be, it sounded hilaaaarious
Could you? Please? I haven’t seen anything about that anywhere. I’m sure there’s a lot of people that wants to read about it too.
Right, this is all taken from https://twitter.com/namazakazaka, starting with this tweet. I’ve seen some other references to it, not all of which I can find now ;_; so I’m sure this doesn’t cover everything, but Namazaka has the most coherent report so it’s the easiest to translate. I can’t promise this is 100% perfect but I think it’s accurate to the spirit of things XD I will defer to great-blaster or anyone who’s better at Japanese should they translate it later and have something different.
This skit is meant to accompany the episode 4 end card (the one where they’re playing videogames with Ran and Ren asleep in their laps).
* * *
Haru: Thanks for letting me use the bath.
Makoto: Your hair’s all wet.
Haru: Shut up.
Makoto: Ran always asks me to dry her hair for her, you know.
Haru: That’s because Ran is a little girl.
Makoto: But I want to. C’mon, let me dry your hair?
Haru: Leave me alone! It’s my hair!
Makoto: Awww…. If I beat you at a game will you do what I say?
Haru: Wait, what are you saying? *
(presumably a bit of game playing in here)
Makoto: I win!
Haru: You’re so childish.
Makoto: Even though you were trying really hard! (some stuff in here nobody seems to have quite heard clearly so I’m not even going to try) And you were all, “I only fight free”.
Haru: Quiet, Makoto, you’re going to wake Ran and Ren.
(Mamo appears to have ad-libbed some childlike snoring here XD)
Makoto: They’re really sleeping soundly, aren’t they?
Haru: I thought they were going to get in the way but they were so worn out from playing that they went right to sleep…
Makoto: They were really glad you came over.
Haru: Shall we carry them to their rooms?
Makoto: Yeah, let’s. … Ah! Haru, your hair’s already dry!
Haru: Why do you look so disappointed…?
Makoto: But I won and everything! … Well, that** would be good too…
Haru: H-hey, Makoto! Are you even listening to me?
Makoto: Oh, but then, *that* would also be good…* This tweet has Haru instead saying “Wait” and Makoto saying “I’m not going to wait today”. So, uh, make of that what you like.
** I’ve seen this prefaced with “What else should I make you let me do?” or something but I can’t find the reference now so grain of salt and all 😦 You should read both “that”s as “something that he’s thinking to himself that’s different to what they were talking about before”, though, rather than a “that” which is responding to anything Haru’s saying. I seem to be too tired to translate this in a way that’s more concise, sorry!
