no but like I’m pissed off about how Alec was treated as a character in he first few books like I didn’t like him at all until city of glass and he wasn’t my favourite character until city of heavenly fire when his character actually developed. I’m pissed off at how literally his entire plot in the books is his relationship with Magnus. literally every other character had a story line and a plot but no not Alec. he is only there for lgbt representation and shoved to the side.
True, though to me this also applies to Isabelle, she has no storyline of her own and is only there to aid others in theirs and when she does get some storyline it revolves around Simon. Which then could be argued that she is more part of his storyline.
Over all the lightwood’s lucked out and where severily underused in the name of the holy trinity. Alec was there to be gay with Magnus and Isabelle was there to be the opposite of Clary and be the romantic interested of Simon.
okay firstly, you didn’t like him until certain books doesn’t mean anything, because lots of other people like him from the firts book (for example: me), maybe it’s just your poor judgement.
secondly, no one beside Clary (and maybe simon) has an actual plot in my opinion (which i’m not certain that it’s 100% correct & anyone is welcome to correct me), jace is only there to be clary’s love interest, magnus is only there to be Alec’s love interest and plot device when someone need answers. None of the characters changed after the series end (Clary hasn’t matured for one bit, Jace is still the same emo sarcastic asshole, Simon’s entire plot of accepting himself as vampire is destroyed by memory lost in the last book)
except for Alec & Isabelle (Alec became more confident and at ease with himself while Isabelle start trusting people again) which it’s ironic since they are the two characters that thought to have no plot line as stated above. Magnus became vulnerable and more honest with Alec in CoHF can be counted as character development, except it lasted for like one page.
In short, yes i agree that alec deserves more and clearly he is not the author’s favorite character, however saying that he has less personality & character development than others is just ridiculous (but honestly i think clare never actually think of his character development, it just happend without her knowing it so i don’t want to give her credit for that)
