Well, I know this might get some unfollows or hate. I don’t want a bi!Clary. I’m glad and excited they casted Magnus as Bi and Alexander as gay, I just feel like the fandom is trying to push something that is not in book canon onto a character. Just so they can tumblrfye the show, so they can be like. “Look at how cool we are!” When in reality, I think they can make their own original bisexual character for the show without having to force it on a major character.

bi!Clary?

killing-the-cuckoo:

See, here’s the thing with why I’m not exactly for bi!Clary in Shadowhunters: There’s no way you could incorporate it in a way that would feel justified. I mean sure, you could have Clary sneak glances at Izzy or Kaelie or whatever, but then what’s the point beyond basically saying “Ooh I guess they’re trying to tell us Clary is bi! Cool.” As far as her character arc goes and the situation surrounding her, Simon and Jace, there’s no place to write in the possibility of her bisexuality without it feeling a bit off hand and not-really-very-important-so-why-make-a-point-of-it if you know what I mean.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m SO for bi representation. I’m a bisexual guy and apparently we (bis as a whole) don’t exist in media, much less bi men. But we have Magnus motherfucking Bane, guys! And before you say “Well he’s only a supporting character” it doesn’t matter! Magnus has a pretty big role in the books and will probably have an equally – if not bigger – role in the show.

I feel like making Clary bisexual wouldn’t accomplish anything. It could never be portrayed to any meaningful extent and I would rather stay away from shoehorning a character into a sexuality that may not have been intended for them solely for the sake of representation.

A friend of mine came up with the suggestion of making Izzy pansexual and portraying the faeries – such as Meliorn – as agender, which actually makes sense to me; it allows for further representation in a major character whilst not compromising the story or adding something that would just feel distracting, as making Clary bi would.

Of course, if Clary does turn out to be bi in the show, then that’s no big deal. But for now, my opinion is that it’s not one of the better creative decisions that could be made.

Also, bi!Maia!!!

That is not Camille. Totally inconsistent with the character and the historical moments.

care to explain how?

Camille’s…

first of all, half of Camille’s character is pale ethereal beauty covering a bloody demonic vampire. That is a given. Another thing to consider is that when Cassie describes most characters, it’s usually starting with body language and the state of their hair and emotions, exedra. But with Camille, its always always always about her beauty and ice cold green eyes and platinum hair and pale skin before anything else. Every character has a most valuable power or asset in the series, clary with her runes and cleverness and general toughness is to Camille’s universally accepted beauty, sadistic bloodlust, and intimidation. It’s the reason why she is the way she is, the only thing that she cares about other than blood and power is her beauty that she uses to get blood and power easily through out the years. she is a very shallow and self serving character and her standard run of the mill type of beauty is what she stands for and works to keep. Secondly, addressing the ‘why didn’t Magnus have a hard time?’ question, he was around the world all over the place where people of dark skin were common place for a good part of his life. When he was in other white places -Europe mainly- he did have a tough time but he was skilled as a warlock. Camille was just a pretty face in places of power, Magnus was a warlock with employable skills and for warlocks, skin tone is not based on a very even playing field. His two best friends were literally blue and green and they got work the same as him, shadowhunters actually threw out plates simply because he had touched them. Warlocks had a very tough existence as it is being discriminated against while vampires were simply perfect creatures according at least to humans. So to get to the point, stop trying to pull the ‘racist’ card on people when it is stated at every available opportunity that Camille is a stunning French aristocratic vampire with blonde hair and green eyes and skin like moonlight. For all but about four or five characters, you could change their race and it would still work (Izzy and Luke for example) but for characters like Clary, Jonathan, Jocelyn, valentine, Jace, and Camille, them being white lil fuckers is stated too many times and enforced by situations too many times to be ignored.

So your argument is that Camille can’t still use her beauty as a weapon if she’s not white? Her beauty is important but you’re basically saying that only white women can be beautiful. And you don’t think that’s racist. Sounds pretty racist to me.

And the Magnus part, yes he’d been with dark skinned people a lot, but when he was in western Europe, INTERACTING WITH HUMANS, he wasn’t accepted for his powers, he was accepted because everyone liked him because they DIDN’T EVEN KNOW HE WAS A WARLOCK.

What you’re saying is complete bs and you sound like someone replaced your brain with one of a brain-dead turkey.

“universally accepted beauty” means it’s easier for her to be accepted as a white woman, it doesn’t mean “only white women can be beautiful”, please stop twisting people’s words.
And if some of you have actually read The Infernal Devices and The Bane Chronicles you would know that Magnus didn’t really have an easy time being not white. He got nothing of his own in London & people only treated him the way they did because he was with Camille. When he ended his thing with Camille, he have to live in Woolsey’s house. Here is a quote from Magnus’ vow: “a half-burned piece of stationary from the Hong Kong Club – a place he had been barred from not for being a warlock, but for not being white.”
And as

legit-just-ships already pointed out, Magnus’ power is something he always have since his father is a very powerful demon, while Camille has no special skills compared to other vampires, she only has her wit and it would be much more difficult to climb to the top of society as a WoC.

The thing is, people are allowed to have opinions about the cast, not everyone who disagree are racist and it’s okay for you to disagree with our opinions but the “sound like someone replaced your brain with one of a brain-dead turkey” part is totally unnessarry. Everyone here are discussing the topic peacefully and no one is bashing the actress that get casted, but you came and throwed the insult with not very much of valid arguements in your post (like, you totally misundertood others’ posts & have no evidences to back-up your post) so who is the one who replaced their brain with one of a brain-dead turkey here?
