Want to know what really, really annoys me about the TMI/TID fandom? (the reason I ditched that fandom tbh)

Everyone in it is so overly dramatic. I mean, they freak out about every goddamned thing, even though Cassandra Clare’s writing is like fanservice galore. Her books, although very well written (I like her style), always cater to what the fans want, and are frankly extremely unbelievable. Especially in the TMI series. I mean think of the third book. You mean to tell me that a few teenage shadowhunters (only two of which are actually, like, good) and a few downworlders all make it out alive after a fucking battle with thousands of immortal demons? And that the one person who comes closest to dying is the very powerful warlock that is hundreds of years old? Yeah fucking right. Not to mention that although the stakes are often very high, Cassandra’s main good-guys always get the happy ending. She never ever kills off the protagonists, even if the odds of at least one of them dying are sky-high. Only the bad guys ever die. In TID, the only protagonist that is killed is Jessamine, but only after she aligned herself with the antagonists. 

Yet all members of the fandom are constantly talking about how Cassandra is, like, ripping their hearts out. And every time a new book comes out, they are all terrified that she’ll kill off their favorite character. I mean, have they not read the other books? Do you not understand that Cassandra will never take a risk?

Gideon Lightwood is such an underrated character. he stepped up and spoke against Benedict when he knew he was breaking the law. he tried to get his little brother away from their piece of shit father. he was there for Gabriel all the time and comforted him. he respects Sophie Collins so much and saw the potential in her. he was the one who told Charlotte that she should allow Sophie to ascend. he along with Gabriel made sure Charlotte kept the institute. he’s also such a cutie getting his crush to make scones for him and then hide them under his bed and never eat them just so that he can see her.
Gideon Lightwood does not get enough love from this fandom and as a Lightwood family enthusiast this pains me

I just don’t feel like he is the embodiment of kindness. Like, he is kind, but to an extent and certainly not all the time.  In the sense that he was chosen, a lot of characters in the series could have been picked because a lot are kind. I don’t feel like he should have been picked to represent that virtue because there are a lot of other characters who are better fit for it. 

“Having positive outlooks and cheerful demeanor; to inspire kindness in others” just doesn’t sound like him to me at all.

besides, he was a downer for much of the series, due to thinking he was cursed

Jem is like so many of these virtues like I get that he can only be one (they should honestly just do him for most though), but I’m just smh at some of these decisions cause Jem would have been a better pick.

And Charlotte, Sophie, or Luke would have been such good picks for kindness

All of these would have been better, than Will. But you’re not wrong. Cassie loves her Herondales the most so I guess that is what happened here as well.

Monday, August 17th, 2007: Jocelyn is taken by Valentine

Thursday, August 20th, 2007: Clary wakes up after being passed out, visits her home, Madame Dorothea, and Luke’s house, before returning to the Institute with Simon.

Friday, August 21st, 2007: Visit the Silent Brothers, Magnus Bane’s party, Simon is taken by Vampires (rescue goes into the next day).

Saturday, August 22nd, 2007: Simon is saved, Alec confronts Clary

Sunday, August 23rd, 2007: Clary turns 16 (they are in the greenhouse at midnight), Clace first kiss, fight Greater Demon, Valentine and Renwick’s scene.

Thursday, August 27th, 2007: CoB epilogue

Tuesday, September 1st, 2007: Alec and Magnus first kiss (Kissed)

Friday, September 4th, 2007: Start of City of Ashes, Simon and Clary kiss, Maia is introduced, Magnus and Alec’s first date, Jace is sent to the Silent City, and Silent Brothers are killed.

Saturday, September 5th, 2007: Seelie Court scene

Sunday, September 6th, 2007: Simon becomes a vampire, Jace visits Valentine on the ship.

Monday, September 7th, 2007: Clary tries out the fearless rune, Simon and Maia are captured, fight with Valentine on the boat.

Tuesday, September 8th, 2007: Continuation of boat fight, Simon discovers he can go in the sunlight.

Friday, September 11th, 2007: Magnus and Alec’s second date

(from now on exact dates are unknown, but all take place in September):

About one week or so later after September 8th: City of Ashes epilogue.

Sometime between Sept 8th and the start of CoG: Alec’s Birthday

About another week, 2 weeks since Simon turned, so around September 20th: Start of City of Glass, everyone ends up in Idris, Simon is imprisoned.

Next Day: Clary meets Sebastian and Aline

Next Day: Clary visits Magnus, Clary and Jace visit the Wayland Manor, Demons attack Idris.

Sometime that night: Max is killed by Sebastian

Three Days Later: Funeral, Valentine gives Shadowhunters till the following day at Midnight and kills Inquisitor.

Next Day: Jace seeks out Sebastian, Clary makes Alliance Rune, final fight, Clary finds Valentine, Valentine is killed, Jace brought back from the dead.

Two Days Later: City of Glass Epilogue

All of the above is what I gathered by looking through the first 3 TMI books and adding in some information from The Bane Chronicles and from Kissed. I did the best I could, as some of the things in the books contradict each other, which is seen when discussing, for example, Alec and Magnus’s relationship plotline (message me if you have any questions).

everyone making posts saying it is Alec’s birthday, can you please also mention how it’s just a headcanon and not his actual birthday since it was never stated or confirmed by Cassie? Because some people see that and think it’s fact and it just cause confusion in the fandom.

she looks like the woman named margaret who sits in the front of the office and has a betty boop calendar and usually is a little stressed out because no one ever puts the outgoing mail in the right place and she’s not really great with this whole “google docs” thing yet but she always remembers to fill up her candy jar with peanut m&ms in seasonal colors and when she finally retires this whole place will fall apart probably
