[1234] is the year that Shadowhunters began looking better in black than the widows of their enemies. Previously when wearing black they looked only equally as good, or worse, than the widows of their enemies

“i always had the idea that i wanted to perform. i love being the center of attention – and i always love talking about myself.”
There is something always bugs me about how Kevin portrays Alec in CoB movie, i mean he is Alec but at the same time, not quite like Alec, & for sometime i don’t understand why. But now I get it, it’s because the Alec Kevin portray is more like CoFA & CoLS’ Alec, not CoB’s Alec.
Alec in CoB was like “I’m jealous but i’m not quite sure if i should be jealous or if i have the right to be jealous because Jace is not exactly mine or anything but i’m still jealous anyway ugh i’m a horrible person”
While Alec in CoFA & CoLS was like “(I know jealous is not good but) fuck that you’re my boyfriend i have every fucking right to be jealous so who the fuck is he/she” & Kevin’s Alec is exactly like thatI’ve felt similarly for a long time but didn’t exactly know how to put it into words so thank you. Just to add to what you were saying though:
I think part of the reason, for me at least, why i didn’t connect to movie Alec as much is because of the way his character is directed (and not because of the way Kevin portrayed him). In the movie, the audience only gets to see his sassy, aggressive, jealous side. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing necessarily- his sass is funny and his jealousy creates drama and people love drama. But it’s not who Alec really is, and you wouldn’t know that unless you read the book. That being said, Alec’s aggressive, jealous side is predominantly portrayed in the book as well. But in the book at least we get to see his more human side. The Alec i know and love is a softy first, and lethal warrior second. The movie portrayed the latter. I mean look at this
Like, jesus people, can’t you see that he snaps out of it once he stops and realizes that what he’s doing is wrong and he’s hurting Clary? We don’t see any of those emotions in the movie scene.
Actually, the only time we really do get to see Alec’s good side in the movie is of course, the, very short, scene with Magnus (holy crap i’m still not over that adorable little smile tho) and the bit where he saves Clary, which is totally glossed over in exchange for an awkward Simon/Clary/Jace showdown in the hallway (like wtf are you even doing your parabatai is lifeless on the floor in the other room and you’re just standing there ugh). And that’s like, it for him. No cute blushing scene because Magnus was healing him and he knows he liked it, no crutches, no bonding talk between him and Clary, no poking fun at Jace, no smile, no laugh, NO. REAL. ALEC !!!
So yeah, that’s my beef with the movie. But hey, whatever. I’m biased because i love, love, love Alec Lightwood. And i know the main focus was really on Clary and Jace. But still, i think they could have handled his character a little better.
~Sorry for hijacking your post and interrupting your dashboards~
Carry on.
No, actually you word it better than i do, and yeah it could be the script’s fault, not Kevin’s. But at least they wrote Alec better than Isabelle, she was like, a totally flat character in the movie (she didn’t have much screentime on the first book actually but still). Movie Alec just need a little bit more shy & self-conscious to be perfect
P/S: (Idk about you, but for me, the part while Jace just standing there is quite in character because honestly in the first book i dont’ recall any time when Jace actually cared about Alec’s well-being, but maybe it’s just me though)

REBLOG IF YOU WANT CITY OF ASHES MOVIE NEWS.
I bet at his party Magnus thought Alec was a Herondale, but then Jace opened his mouth and said two words and he was just like, ‘yep he’s the asshole, that’s the Herondale.”
