I have so many damn thoughts about this article and the reaction to it, I don’t even know where to start. 

Firstly, Idk if I agree 100% with EVERYTHING he says. Some of it comes across as a bit “idealistic” and perhaps naive but that’s not necessarily a bad thing, I mean it all seems to come from a pretty good natured place, and at least he’s trying to make a stand for something.

The sexuality argument has become such a big deal though and I feel sorry for him a bit, because looking round the internet at various responses all it’s served to do is a) cause MORE speculation about his sexuality and b) be used as a stick to beat him with. (I’ve lost count of the number of times today I’ve read either “He’s totally gay and just hiding in the closet” or “He’s totally straight and refusing to admit it to keep gay fans interested”)

I agree with him 100% about society trying to put everything into binaries (and personally, I think that comment perhaps answers, or alludes to the answer to the question more than anything else that’s in the interview), however I disagree with the idea discussing people’s sexualities is reductive mainly because, me being a nosy bitch aside, there’s still such a stigma attached to gay (mainly male) actors that any extra visibility is still massively needed. It’s improving, but at a snails pace, so until gay actors are regularly getting booked for het parts/romantic leads/the same parts as their straight colleagues without feeling the need to hide in the closet, then it’s still going to be an important conversation that needs to be had. 

I just feel sorry for the guy because if he doesn’t want to discuss it then he doesn’t fucking have to, and he’s right, his sexuality shouldn’t have any bearing on how he does his job, what he’s like as a person, and how fucking cute his face is (BECAUSE GODDAMN IT IT’S A CUTE FACE TOP LIP OR NO TOP LIP), 

So I applaud the guy for trying, but ultimately, in him trying to be private and make a point, it’s probably going to come back and bite him in the ass one way or the other when he does finally settle down with someone, because at the end of the day, we’re all a bunch of curious nosy bitches, and I don’t necessarily think that’s a bad thing either?
